I do not think you should read something like this. Left untreated acid reflux can cause ulcers, bleeding of esophogas and eventually lead to cancer. I do not mean to scare you or you or maybe. If you suspect something is wrong, then you need to be seen by the doctor and expecially at such a young age. It may become less important and something you can control with a change in diet. I know firsthand what can be worse than drinking soda or eating is too much before bedtime.

Cancer is likely. Acid reflux is when the opening of your esophagus to the stomach is weak and allows stomach acid to splash back from the stomach into the esophagus (sorry, I do not know the correct spelling.)
And that can cause cancer.

It can lead to esophageal cancer.
