Will Drinking Alkaline Walter Help Relieve GERD (Acid Reflux)?

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Many people right now are turning towards a natural cure for their GERD or Acid Reflux. A number of them have figured out traditional prescriptions can only take you so far, especially with the great deal of side effects and other complications that can arise from taking it in a prolonged basis. One of the natural remedies available in treating GERD is with alkaline water.

Your body needs balance. It needs to get back into a rhythm where it can function well and independently – meaning without the use of drugs or traditional medication. Your body is designed to withstand any disease, as long as it is working at an optimum level of performance. And that is the state of balance.

A lot of research has shown that human blood is slightly alkaline, with a pH of 7. 35 to 7. 45. It has also revealed that unless the body’s pH level is normal (slightly alkaline), it cannot heal itself. Meaning, it cannot and will not effectively use vitamins, minerals, supplements, and whatever miracle food there is in the marketplace. Add to that the fact that most people have a fast food diet (highly acidic), not mainly because they do not have a choice, but because they do not have time to prepare for a good meal, because of their busy schedules and ever growing responsibilities at home, college, or in their career. The frightening thing though is that GERD or Acid Reflux, if not treated at an early stage, will eventually worsen in a couple of months, as I learned by experience.

Therefore, you would need something that would neutralize the majority of the acidic foods that you consume everyday. And that’s where alkaline water comes in. In addition to good eating habits, you should make it a habit to drink at least 5 to 8 cups of alkaline water each day. Be aware though that not all water is created equal. At home, I have an alkaline bio pot filter and container that effectively changes normal tap water to an alkaline state. If you could not get a technology such as that, you can make your water water alkaline by adding alkalizing drops – they are available mostly at health food stores, or you could also squeeze some fresh lemon juice into your water.
