Question by janie: what do the words high level means when an upper GI turns up the following diagnosis: multiple instances of?
“high level gastroesophagial reflux”

I have litytle to no heartburn but globbus sensation (feeling like a lump in the throat, continual coughing worst when lying down with volumous clear phelm, and reflux of food back into the mouth.

I was told when one has no heartburn, it is called silent reflux or larengoesophigial reflux but the upper gi report does not say this but the high level thing above.

The doctor said it was going all the way up but not sure if he said to the top of the throat or where but I got the impression it was a bad case. He could tell within 20-30 seconds of putting me under the xray machine with the barium swallow.

It this different from Gerd or is it gerd without heartburn and if one was doing natural treatments, would the same things that helped regular gerd help the silent kind, any advice on helping it non drug is appreciated.

Is there a way to tell via a test if it is the silent kind (lpr) or just regular gerd or do they just arrive at this diagnosis based on if you have heartburn or not…what heals the esophagus from the damage the acid causes.

but what does high level mean–that is is severe or that it is refluxing up high in the esophagus? this is my main question so please address this is you know.

Why Having a Healthy pH Level Can Cure Your GERD

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Before I go any further, it would best help to define what pH is.

The pH (stands for potential of Hydrogen) is a measure of how acid or alkaline a solution is. It is a measure of its hydrogen ion concentration. If you have a high pH reading, then a solution would be more alkaline or oxygen-rich. On the other hand, the lower the pH reading, the more acidic or oxygen-deprived a solution would become. The values of pH range rom 0 to 14, with the middle (7. 0) being neutral. Anything greater than the midpoint is alkaline, and anything lesser than that is acidic.

So what does this have to do with your GERD or Acid Reflux Your blood is slightly alkaline (pH of 7. 35 to 7. 45). Take careful notice of this – if your blood pH goes below 6. 8 or above 7. 8, your cells stop functioning and the body dies. This is the reason why your body is constantly striving to balance its pH – your life literally depends on it, and whether or not you will recover from your health condition depends on how healthy your pH level is.

A diet that is rich in acid producing foods such as sugar, coffee, processed foods and animal products will just put a ton of pressure on your body in regulating its pH. As your body tries to balance this out, it uses some of its own reserves of alkaline minerals such as potassium, calcium, and magnesium. It would be good if you are taking mineral supplements AND your body is well absorbing them (such is most often not the case for people with GERD or Acid Reflux).

If this coping mechanism continues, minerals are just taken away from your bones, blood, and other vital organs for the sake of neutralizing all the excess acid and removing it from your body. However, because you lose a great number of these minerals in the process, the trade-off is that you become more prone to chronic and degenerative diseases. These can come in the form of complications to your GERD or Acid Reflux.

The main thing to remember here is your body’s pH affects your entire state of health. So if you are suffering from such a condition already, it would be best to actively ensure that your pH level remains slightly alkaline, in order to fight off other diseases, keep your immune system up and running, and thereby giving you a greater chance to cure your GERD or Acid Reflux, and stop it from recurring. The best approach in treating this, as was in my case, is the natural way.
