This worries me to death, my baby has bad reflux, GERD and possibly spits all the time.

Recent statistics show that children from 3 to 7 are victims of acid reflux symptoms between 2 and 8% of the time, and that for infants 20% is the real percentage that suffers. Many infants exhibit vomiting on a regular basis as mild to moderate “spitting up”, which does not in itself cause distress from the mouth or nose. GERD and normal vomiting are therefore easy to confuse in infants. Diagnosis of GERD can be especially problematical. Because of the limited capacity of their esophagus, infants vomit or regurgitate more than adults. Further symptoms can include belly pain, enlargement of the adenoids, chronic coughing, infections of the middle ear, asthma, anemia, spitting up of blood (known as hematemesis), a sibilant breathing sound, croup that repeats, arching of the spine and inflamed nose and /or sinus. When your infant falls victim to GERD, a number of further symptoms such as these appear. For instance, as GERD vomiting is inherently painful, babies who vomit too often will often cry or scream for hours on end or lie awake unable to sleep, a strong indication that they might be suffering from this.
That justifies early diagnosis and treatment, prerequisites for your infant to stay safe and well. Making an appointment with a gastroenterologist or an ENT (ear, nose, throat) doctor is the best solution for getting the proper diagnosis for your child. The danger of ignoring acid reflux in infants is that it may lead to serious complications as well. An infant who comes to think that feeding means pain may refuse breastfeeding and lose body mass. 3. Medication of any kind may engender a long-term reliance and work against your child’s auto-immune system to then aggravate the condition.

My son has had really bad acid reflux since birth. Now at 5 months I would have to introduce a sippy cup for him. Only with a little water you can try to get out of it nothing major, but just to familiarize yourself with the idea of a cup instead of the bottle. My little girl is 5 weeks old and is gassy. She is a pretty good baby otherwise but sometimes when she spits up it comes out of her nose. Sometimes she regurgatates the bottle but very unfreqently. She also sometimes sounds like she is gurgling? She is such a good trooper though, she rarely cries at all and easts about every 3 hours. I have tried the mylicon drops and they seem to work only for a short period of time. My baby’’s doctor has put her on medicaine for acid reflux and told me to switch the formula to Nutramingin. When I did this after 2 days she seemed worse than ever. I put her back on Good start but have keep her on meds. I dont know what to do with her now. Is there a better formula anyone has tried with a baby with these symptoms. Can you really go by what the formula says it is for on the label. Why wouldnt Soy be recommended for gas/fussiness by doctors instead of putting them on meds and saying its acid reflux. Help!!

No matter how many you have belching, my daughter is still spitting out long after some foods. Pediatrician diagnosed with acid reflux and said that to maintain its upright position. It seems to bother, especially the really big ones. Any advice appreciated.

She spits up infrequently, but it is usually thick and slightly chunky. She will often pull off the breast while feeding and cry, and this makes her feedings irregular and unsatisfying for her. Out of the blue she wil start to gag like she has something in her throat. Also sometimes she will start moving her mouth like she is tasting something. How do I know if she has Acid Reflux?

My 2 weeks old baby is suffering from silent acid reflux. He can not solve all of the night, as he keeps getting up every 10 minutes and suffocation. He also cries a lot, because I caught wind that grouping as he keeps his legs into his belly. Anyone with any home remedies that can help? I was told that the complaint can not be given water before 4 weeks and other resources-infacol, colief, Gaviscon etc have too many side effects.
