I purchased this about four months ago after another food processor died. My major qualm is the space a food processor can take up, since i have limited space in my kitchen. I liked the fact that the bowl is on top of the motor instead of to the side, which to me means that it takes up less counter space. I also like the fact that- like many of their products- there is a smooth surface where the operating buttons are, which means this can easily be wiped clean.

This is able to handle most of what I throw at it. I only cook for two, so I don’t really need a mega capacity one. It comes with the basic blades I need with the grating and slicing, as well as the chopping blade. I had a huge zucchini in the garden- i have memories from when I was a child grating mountains of zucchini with a box grater for my mom and killing my knuckles. This made short work of the zucchini in about thirty seconds.

My gripes. Like most food processors the space on top of the disc blade where food can get hung up and not processed. No biggy.

Then there is plastic construction. I had a little part on it break on the handle tonight that prevented it from locking it into place. I am a careful person and was not doing anything unreasonable when it broke right in the middle of dinner prep.

I got on the phone with kitchenaid and they are going to send me a new bowl free of charge.

So theres the happy ending. When you buy kitchenaid, you may spend a lot up front for a unit, but most times if something breaks, it can be replaced, whereas a lot of lesser units would trash the whole thing and buy a new one.

Just got mine in the mail! One thing you must know before buying this appliance is that it weighs about 15 pounds or so- Heavy. This makes it difficult to store away when not in use. No problem if you have lots of counter space, but I prefer my small counter to be free of appliances. I wasn’t prepared for it- my old one weighed only about 5 lbs and I could easily whip it out when I needed it.

That being said, it looks great on the counter. It is a nicely designed product, inside and out. Easy to clean, not too big or too small.

7/14/09 UPDATE: I am still in love with this appliance! I use it all the time.

04/04/10 update: Still loving it! You won’t regret this purchase.

The folks who designed this food processor deserve a lot of credit. They came up with a great little appliance.

    Key points:

It is easy to clean! What can’t be thrown in the dishwasher is easy to wipe clean.

It is a convenient size. Processes enough food for several people, but stores easily.

It is powerful. Slices, mixes and grates just about anything without a problem.

It is simple. Goes together and comes apart easily.

The price is right. You get a very solid and useful food processor for your money.

Most important — it is safe. It won’t turn on unless it is properly assembled. (Recently I’ve seen some cheap knock-off kitchen appliances — especially a blender — that were NOT safe! They should not be on the market, but they are. Think twice about bargain off-brand appliances!)

Can I pick at anything? Sure. No appliance is perfect.

It is surprisingly heavy for its small size. But that’s probably due to quality construction.

The slicing/grating disk can be a bit hard to disassemble. And you have to be careful — it is sharp!

The slicing/grating disk can flex during processing if you press down too hard. (Solution — don’t press down too hard!)

Food can get impacted inside the cap behind the feed chute. Takes a bit of fussing with the rubber scraper to clean.

But, overall, you get a good, handy appliance for a fair price. One that should last you a long time and give you great service.

And no, I don’t work for Kitchen Aid, or have any other tie to the company. But I do think people deserve credit when they do a good job!

We received this as a wedding gift over a year ago and I use it an least a couple of times a week.

Here’s what I like about this food processor:

    Sturdy.

Easy to disassemble and clean (in the dishwasher).

    It’s quiet.

    Motor seems robust.

    Here’s what I don’t like:

    – It doesn’t chop everything evenly. You basically have to chop everything to a pulp to get large chunks to be cut up and lots of times you just have to pick the large chunks out because the machine just isn’t going to chop ‘em.

    – When you use the grating wheel, half of the item you’re trying to shred winds up in chunks and lodged in the crevices of the lid or between the lid and the wheel.

    - The “full-sized tube” is extremely narrow. I have to cut some carrots in half lengthwise in order for them to fit. And carrot-stick sized pieces are going to get stuck between the wheel and lid every time.

    - When you try to puree soup in it (or any other liquid) it’s going to leak out the top where the lid and the main bowl meet. Even if you use an insanely small amount the blades whir it up there and then it leaks out.

    - Please do not be fooled for a MINUTE thinking that you can process 7 cups of stuff in this at one time. The blades will never reach the top stuff and you would have to stir it by hand every 10 seconds to get it all to chop evenly.

The thing that is the most upsetting to me is that this is in the top two rated home food processors and I find it’s performance extremely disappointing.

KitchenAid 7-Cup Food Processor – White

I’m happy with this compact item; it compares well with the Cuisinart and takes up less space.

It chops and purees well, and the size of the chopped pieces can be controlled by the pulse button. The model with the small cup included might have been useful but the sale price on this item dissuaded me from buying that one. Have not yet used any liquids in it so can’t comment on that. Caveat: the blades are really sharp- use caution.
